The natural world is extraordinarily complex. We are just beginning to learn more about the ways in which organisms communicate, cooperate, and inter-relate. Did you know that plant roots and fungi form symbiotic relationships, underground, known as mycorrhizas? For example, threadlike fungi envelop and fuse with tree roots, helping them extract water and nutrients like phosphorus and nitrogen in exchange for some of the carbon-rich sugars the trees make through photosynthesis. Wonder.
